Every so often, YouTube selects a few lucky content creators
to help advertise the service. They call
these people “Beacons” and in exchange for their cooperation, they receive a
complimentary helping of the mighty Google ad network.
For this third round of Beacons, we were invited to work
alongside
co:collective, designing and developing rich and standard media
campaigns for Hank Green’s
SciShow and
Rocket Jump’s Video Game High School.
Both campaigns were developed simultaneously and featured
dozens of rich interactive ads from mastheads to mobile expandos. SciShow entertained users with quirky trivia
engagements such as chopping off animal limbs or descending toward the center of
the earth. Video Game High School
showcased the pixelated boundary between high school students and their video
game world.
